China Cabinet

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a China Cabinet by Gina's Lasercuts Designs.

I covered the cabinet in gesso and then applied texture paste over a stencil.  I put a coat of pearl metallic acrylic over it, followed by layers of twinkling H20s, watercolors, and lumieres.

I put two coats of crackle on the raised areas, and brown and black chalk to make the cracks show.  On the top area and on the drawers I used gloss medium instead of acrylic paint, and that sealed the surface better. Thanks for looking!

Hi, it's Kathi here to share with you a new layout using Fairies.

I started with the Prima paper “Fairy Belle”, and kept the layout simple since the paper was very busy.  I added two medium fairies from Gina’s Designs,  painted the wings gold using Tim Holtz Distress Paints, and painted one fairy light pink laying it on an intricate doily on the upper right of the photo mat.

 On the lower left corner of the photo mat I placed a second intricate doily. The second fairy I painted with gesso and dressed her in ivory lace trim. 

 On the left side I placed Queen Ann’s Lace as a border which I painted with white gesso.

Here is my take on the sketch.  Once again I have featured my cat Willie.  I'm currently creating a whole memorial wall for him with all the layouts in shadowbox frames.  I love looking at it, it makes me smile.  I began this layout with some background stamping, and I also used our Steampunk Doily as a stencil, then turned it to the other side and layered the actual doily behind the photos.

Hello Everyone, Veronica here to share an altered frame project using several pieces from Gina's Designs.

I had this frame all covered in Gesso and ready for something over a year ago, but didn't have a clue where to go after that!  Finally, after looking through my chipboard shapes, I got inspired to bring it back out and do something with my Grandma's in mind.

Gina's Doodled Cages is a perfect addition, my Grandma loved birds.

 One can never have too many of her Wooden Decorative Keys!

Guest Designer Jennifer and an Extra Special "bee"signer Autumn along with Heidi's Moments Like This

 

Hello Everyone! Today we have some fun items up on our blog, first up is our Guest Designer Jennifer. She has upcycled a lantern from a Thrift Store and created this amazing Fairy Garden! Jennifer has passed on some to us below, about how she created this amazing piece. 

 

"...I found this lantern at a second hand store and it screamed fairy garden! I used the chipboard  garden fairies and some dragonflies and painted them black to create a silhouette effects. I then used the wrought iron border set and the miniature arch set painted black and added a chipboard key from the keys and plates set. All of the flowers I used are from craftsupplies1."

 

 

Here you can see how Jennifer lit up this lantern with a battery operated tea light to give it a very magical effect!

Next up is one of our Junior Designers, Autumn who happens to be Jennifer's 5 year old Granddaughter! She has created something special this month for us. Jennifer said that when ever she mentioned to Autumn that she was going to be a Junior Guest "Designer", Autumn disagreed and said no I am not, I am a "Beesigner". Well we kinda think that's a cool name so we are going to keep it...so here is our Beesigner Autumn who created some gorgeous Ballerinas!

Hello  everyone!  Today's project is a little Project Life double page.  Some of you may have seen that Gina's Designs has come out with some great chipboard embellishments, project life cards as well as organization tools!  

The page on the left lower card is a MOMENT card.  In this page I used another sentiment card behind it but it could easily be used in front of a picture that was highlighting a specific moment.  I am trying to get some of my graduation pages ready for pictures to be added for my son.   

This is another of the little project life die cut cards- again I took one of my graduation cards with the diploma on it and used the chipboard card to highlight it.  I just love that little scroll there in the top corner!

Happy Saturday, rainbow drops!  Can you believe that it is May already?  I feel like the year is breezing by way too fast.  For those of you who live in places where winter was harsh, I hope that you are enjoying the weather.  You will soon be enjoying summer, the pool, lemonade and all that good stuff :-)  For me, I pretty much enjoy that weather year round, so I'm looking forward to the day when I see snow again. 

Today I want to share with you a special project that I made for Gina's Designs.  This is a Decorative Frame Shadow Box.  It is one of the new products in the store and I really enjoyed working with it.  It is currently hanging on a wall in my bathroom.  I like looking at it because it feels very cheerful.  I hot glued a sawtooth frame hanger to the back so I could hang it on the wall easily.  

First I painted the frame with green acrylic paint, then I glued two different papers to the back of the frame.  I hot glued some pretty lace trim and large, flat back pearls to the top and a flower ribbon to the bottom.  I finished it by adding some flowers, a metal bicycle, a craft bird, a butterfly and some little wood embellishments.  It really was that simple!  Trust me, you don't have to be a very experienced crafter to decorate a frame like this.  It just takes some embellishments, glue and a little bit of time.  I had so much fun putting it all together.  I hope that you will give it a try.  Scroll down for a list of supplies.  But remember, as long as you have the decorative frame, you can use whatever supplies you have on hand.

Art Storage Cabinet by Kim

Hello everyone and happy Friday! Today I have something special to share with you and also a tutorial of how to create this amazing piece from Gina's Designs

This is the Art Storage Cabinet, it is a fantastic piece, and holds so much of my crafting supplies!

So first off, lets get started with the tutorial and then I will share with you the finished product.

Getting Started:

It is recommended to use Beacon 3 & 1 Glue. I, however, used Glossy Accents and it gave a good firm hold to my cabinet.

Locate the following hardboard pieces before putting together your art cabinet:

 One (1) large base piece measuring a scant 13” wide by 10.5” tall.

 Two (2) center pieces, each measuring 10” wide x 8.75” tall. C. One (1) center piece measuring 6.25” wide x 9” tall.

D. Two (2) end pieces (one for the left side and one for the right side) measuring 10” wide x 4” tall.

E. Four (4) cubbie shelves, each measuring 6.5” wide x (almost) 5” deep.

F. Four (4) side pieces, each measuring 3” wide x 4” tall.

G. Two (2) end pieces, each measuring 4” tall x 10” wide

H. Two (2) pieces, each measure 3” tall x 6.5” wide

Building the cabinet:

 Lay the base (piece A)  13” wide x 10.5” tall down in front of you. 

 Place the 3 center pieces (pieces B & C)  in place: two pieces measuring 10” wide x 8.75” tall + the 6.25” wide x 9” tall piece. Each piece connects easily to the other by matching the notches. Note that the smooth side of each piece faces upward.





 Add the 4 cubbie shelves (pieces E) to each side.

 Connect the 3 side pieces to each end (pieces D & G) 

 Add one side piece to each upper side (pieces H)

Add the top piece to this section to complete the cubbies on the top of the cabinet.

 The top of the cabinet:

You will now see that the top is open once you have built the sides. It will look like the photo below and give you two more spaces for storage.

 Your Cabinet should look like this

 Sides of the Cabinet:

Now that the center is assembled, we will move on to the long sides of the cabinet. You will find these pieces pictured below.

 Start by adding the short piece to the front of the cabinet, it will slot in easily and line up with the tabs.

 Next, add the long side piece, again it will fit in the tabs and slot easily, then add the other smaller piece to the opposite side.

 Your cabinet should now look like this.

The Drawers: 

Build four (4) drawers (if desired). Each drawer has 5 pieces:

 The large bottom rectangle measures 6” across x almost 5” deep.

 Two (2) pieces each measuring almost 5” wide x 2.5” tall (one for each side of the drawer)

 The back piece measuring 6” wide x 2.5” tall

 The front piece measures 6” wide x 2.5” tall and has a half circle cut out of the top as well as a small hole underneath the half circle in case you want to add a knob.

You may finish the drawers with paint, ink or paper.

Embellishing Your Cabinet

 Now for the fun part! Embellishing your Cabinet. I used Gesso all over the cabinet first, 2 coats, then decided on my paint color. I have used a Martha Stewart "Putty" color for my cabinet.

 I then chose my paper, to match in my craft room. I decided on the 75 cents collection by Kaisercraft. I measured the sides after the paint had dried and began to cut my paper to fit.

 I chose to paper the top of the cabinet, but you can decide to decorate yours anyway you like!

Here is the finished look! I added some laces, handles to the drawers, cameos and metal embellishments to decorate it.

 I added a few wood embellishments to the sides that matched with the paper.

 You can see below here, I have used one of Gina's new Number Plates and I added it to a metal butterfly that I embellished in some Shabby White Embossing Powder.

 And here you have the finished piece. This Art Cabinet holds tons of supplies, I couldn't believe how much I could put in here! This is another amazing storage solution Gina has created!

Photo Display Sweet Sisters

Hello everyone!  Gina here today to share a gift I made for some friends.  I used the new Photo Display Tray Honeycomb to feature a pair of adorable sisters.

I painted my tray using white acrylic paint colored with alcohol ink and I added sand to the paint to give some texture.  Then I inked the frame using Wild Honey Distress Ink to bring up the texture.  I added the photos and background paper before I glued down the overlay layer.  I fussy cut the large photo and "popped" it out of the frame.

The girls names and title are a special order from Gina's Designs (Yes, you can email us to do any words in any size).  I inked the names using Wild Honey Distress Ink.

The charm was made using the small Wooden Circle Charm.  I printed the background, added some tiny sequins and then filled the charm using Ultra Thick Embossing Powder and my melting pot.
