Beginners' Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

Good morning, Marfa here!  Today I want to share a layout that I made for two of my favorite photos.  I wanted to take photos of some interesting bridges.  Nothing fancy, just fun.  So my mom accompanied me to a local city park and found an interesting little bridge to photograph.  My mom, of course, is a bit of a ham.  So she offered to model for me :-D  I wish that everyone was that eager to pose for my camera.

Although this is a Mixed Media layout, it is very easy to recreate.  The techniques that I used are extremely simple.  You're going to need a chipboard gear border from Gina's Designs Gears Borders and Corners.  Use the chipboard as a stencil and spray ink in different colors to create a background.  Repetition is key here.  Turn the chipboard cover it with metallic paint.  Add some Liquid Pearls in strategic places.  Once your layout is complete spray lots of Glimmer Mist or another shimmery spray.  Even though it is hard to see on these photos, in person the paper looks very close to metal.  This is a way to replicate the look of the metal from which the bridge is made.

Chinese New Year Box by Shanna

Hey everyone. Shanna here to share a box I recently created based off of these wonderful easel box creations I have been seeing in blogland. I created mine based off of this tutorial here.

I had so much fun with this project, I even got to order the papers just to create this easel card box. I am really happy with how it turned out!

Here you can see the draw is opened.

Here are some close ups of the chipboard pieces.

I used some gold and black detail embossing powder from Sparkle N Sprinkle. Gave everything a good heat set and then added some glossy accents in the center to make the dream shiny.

A mini album from Mary, and more Valentine's Day fun with Heidi

We have two projects to share today.  First up is Mary with a sweet dog-themed mini album.

Hello everyone! Mary here with one of Gina's Dog Bone Mini Albums featuring my dog, Molly. The album contains six bone shapes to use for the covers and pages.
The first thing I did was gesso the bones.  After that I covered each of the bones with paper from The Pets Stack by DCWV and inked all the edges. On the cover I have an embossed frame with two metal pieces, and metal letters spelling out "Molly".
Here are the first two pages of the book. The "sweet" is a cutout from the paper collection and is attached to one of the dog bone tags that comes with the album.

Above is page three and four of the album.

On page three I used the three-frame film strip that comes in the "Say Cheese Shapes Set".
This is page five and six showing the two things she loves best; her tennis balls and napping on the couch!
Here we have pages seven and eight. The Polaroid frame is from the "Say Cheese Shapes Set". The "fun" is from the paper collection and placed inside one of the embossed miniature bookplates.
Pages nine and ten complete the book. I used another miniature bookplate and the word "joy" on page ten.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! For more pictures and details of the mini album, please visit my blog HERE.

Hi, it's Heidi here!  Today I have a cute little project for Gina's Designs.  It is a wall hanging kit with everything you need to create a cute Valentine project.  I began by covering the back piece of chipboard with some cute little XOXO paper from SU.  I then painted the X's and O's with pink and white paints and then added a little texture to the tops of the pink ones.  I also used a few little gems on the whites to give it a little extra sparkle.  The pink heart border is also part of the kit.

Next up we have Kim to share more Valentine's Day fun!

Hi Everyone, Kim here! I hope you are all ready for Valentines Day! Today I'm sharing a card I have created in a masculine style that's perfect for the man in your life.
This is going to be given to my husband, who loves gadgets and tools.  I had a lot of fun creating it using the Robin's Nest Wild about U Paper and some wonderful Steampunk goodies from Gina's Designs.
Here you can see I have layered one of the Steampunk doilies with one of the new Steampunk hearts and then placed one of the clock keys from the Steampunk 2 Shape Set on top. In the corner I placed the light bulb from the same set which I embossed,  and then I placed a heart from the Valentine Shape Set inside the bulb.
I have spelled out "Me & You" with wooden letters from my stash and put the ampersand in one of Gina's Gears from the Gear Shape Set. I used a metal clip at the top, attached a chain and added some fun tool charms from my stash to complete the front of the card.
Inside the card I placed a large journaling label from The Robin's Nest and cut out some fun heart shapes with my heart punch, using more paper from the Wild about U collection.
Thanks so much for stopping by today, and Happy Valentine's Day!

Home Decor with a Nature Assemblage and a Valentine themed Wall Hanging

Hi everyone!  We have two very different projects to share today.  First up is Nancy with one of our new home decor products.

Hi all!  It's Nancy here with another project inspired by nature, one of my favorite themes.  When I saw this Filmstrip Shadowbox, I knew it had to be mine!  After I got it, I puzzled over the decision on which one of my many ideas I should use, and with which orientation I wanted to use  You can place this piece either horizontally or vertically.  My first inclination was a Steampunk project, or maybe a fun retro pin-up theme would be great.  This would also be perfect for family photos, or anything with a movie theme.   All you need is your imagination.

Whats New with Ginas Designs!

We have some very exciting news to share, please take a peek at this video done by Kim to share our happy news with you!

House Shrine Box By Kim

Hi Everyone, Kim Here.  I hope you have had a wonderful January so far! Today I am sharing the House Shrine Box available at Gina's Designs.  I really love how this box is so versatile and can be made into any style you'd like. I have chosen to use the Bo Bunny Avenues Collection as my inspirational starting point. On the right front, I have added one of our new chipboard shapes from the Catweed Set.  I have embossed it with the Shabby white powder and then added some more flowers from my stash to create dimension.

On the inside I created the look of a "door" using a cut out from the paper line and one of the door plates available at Gina's Designs in the Door Sets.  I have also added a lamp post from the Lamp Post Set and embossed it with weathered wood. I added some flowers and also cut out some of the shutters from the paper line to add to the sides.

In the photo below, you can see the roof where I've used distress paints in the weathered wood colour. The metal piece is a box corner which I embossed in a shabby white colour.

Another fun embellishment I used was this light bulb which I got from my husband's workshop. I wanted it to look like a porch light, and I am pleased with the effect it created.

At the top I have used one of the small Cottage Windows, which I also embossed.  I've added a Tim Holtz Number plate to complete the look.

I hope you like my project and thank you so much for stopping by today!

Shanna Layout

Good morning all you paper crafters out there. Shanna here today with a layout to share based on the current Gina's Designs Sketch Challenge for January.  Hurry and get your entries in for a chance to win the $10 gift certificate to the store.  Winners are chosen by drawing from eligible layouts.

I tried my hardest to stick to the layout. I didn't do any journaling though nor did I have three photos :( I am a one maybe two photos kind of gal). I did do a lot of matting and some mixed media though to keep it interesting.

Here you can see my Gina's Designs chipboard piece which got a coat of gesso, spray, and more gesso.

This is a fun piece of Gina's Designs chipboard that got a coat of gesso, then some glass bead gel, and then sprayed and painted.

Here is a close up of the beading!

Hope you are feeling inspired to pull out your chipboard pieces!!!

A Double Layout by Kathi and a Wall Hanging by Angela

It's Kathi here to share a double layout I created by pairing Gina's Designs chipboard shapes and The Robin's Nest papers.  The title of this layout is "I'm So Glad My Heart Found You".

The papers I used were the "Dark Distress Red", and "Classic Roses" from the Wild About U Collection.  Our Gina's Designs Valentine themed chipboard shapes are a perfect fit to go with the papers.  I used the lips & the fancy heart from the Valentine Shape Set, and  added a string along heart to the left side of the photo mat and I used two pieces from The Robin's Nest embellishment page by cutting out the fancy journaling spot that goes with the paper collection. To the left side of the layout I placed a tall valentines card that was given to his wife. A few months after Feb 14 his life was cut short due to a freak accident while on vacation. The sentiment said "I'm so glad my heart found you",  Love Cliff. I then framed the layout so she can hang it on her wall.

This is the second page of the layout. I used the paper "Valentine Hearts" & "Classic Roses" on this one. The tag is from the embellishment page. From Gina's Store I used the Cupids from the "Cupid Shape Set". Both were painted with white gesso then stamped with Fire Brick Red Distress Ink using music notes. The love sign was also painted with white gesso. I placed a red piece of paper behind the sign & placed it on the tag.  The three hearts from the "Valentine Shape Set" were prepared using embossing ink and UTEE.
The string along love is out of the "String Along - Hearts".  I painted it red then white/clear glitter was added. I then added a 4 X 6 photo mat & a large wooden heart. The large heart was raised up using foam dots in order to insert a photo behind.  The red heart inside is removable to use as a template to size the photo to slip behind the heart.

Cards by Marfa for the man in your life

Hello gorgeous!  This is Crafting Marfa today.  I want to show a couple of cards that I made for my honey.  His birthday is only a week after Valentine's Day, so I wanted to be ready for both!  Most people love receiving handmade cards, and these are cards that can be made by beginners, or by crafters that don't have a lot of spare time, or even by children.  So don't wait, grab your supplies and make some pretty cards! I am using gorgeous Valentine themed paper by The Robin's Nest.

The guys in my life are definitely not into frilly stuff...lol, but fortunately, Gina's Designs has a lot of manly designs to work with.  For the birthday card I used the Miniature Shapes Set-Guy Things and the High Fliers Shapes Set.  For the Valentine's Day card I used the ADORABLE Intricate Doilies Set, the Doily Set 8 Inch, and the String Alongs-Hearts set.

The Happy Birthday sign is a border punch by Martha Stewart.  I just cut the letters out, most of them were attached to each other, so that made it easier to glue to the card.  I colored all the chipboard shapes with a silver paint pen, then added Crackle Accents to the shapes on the Valentine's Card.  The finishing touch was to spray Glimmer Mist for extra sparkle.
