Altered Canvas by Veronica and Trinket Box by Donna

We have two designers on the blog today with some truly inspiring projects to share.  First up is Veronica.


Hi Everyone! Veronica here to share an Altered Canvas that I made for a friend of mine. I'm calling it "She Stood in the Storm", as she just recently beat breast cancer.  I wanted to show her my support through a mixed media canvas.

Gina's Designs  has so many wonderful choices in laser cuts, that I was easily inspired!

I love having all my medias at reach any time I work on a project.
  I just go at the canvas with how I'm feeling at that moment, and with so many chipboard shapes to choose from, I find myself immersed into a Mixed Media Heaven!

Next up is Donna to share one of our trinket boxes.  These boxes are actually quite large at 7x7x3.

Hi scrappy friends, it's Donna again with a trinket box from Gina's Designs. This is a great item to make as a gift or just to keep all your special trinkets and scrapbook goodies in. It is a great size, sturdy and very easy to assemble. The dark color hardwood is a beautiful, smooth, semi gloss brown color. I almost hated to cover it up with paper!

 

The first thing I did, before I assembled the trinket box, was to take each piece and trace an outline on the paper I chose to cover the box. You have control of which parts of the paper you will use for each section.  It was very easy to cut out the shapes and glue them to the hardwood pieces. I did not paint the sections of the box that would not be covered with paper. As I previously mentioned, the hardwood is a very beautiful color. Then being very careful to attach the paper to the correct side of the hardwood sections, I glued the paper in place.  If needed, take a small file of some type and gently sand/file down the areas your paper may not fit exactly over the shape of the base and lid of the box. I had a lucky day, mine fit perfectly!

And then the real fun begins when it's time to add the embellishments: a few fussy cut flowers, paper flowers, gold lace, cameos, pearl sprays, pearls, crystals, and I added a couple of birds on branches from Gina's Birdwatching Shape Set.  I covered the chipboard shapes, with gesso, let them dry, and then painted the two birds with antiqued bronze crackle paint. The branches were painted with artichoke shimmer texture paint. I wanted to keep the chipboard simple because there are a lot of embellishments on the box. And I added a brass handle to the lid. There is a pre-drilled hole in the lid if you need it. There are so many beautiful knobs and handles out there to choose from for this fabulous box!

It was very hard to capture, in photos, how beautiful the muted colors of the paper and flowers work together, and how pretty the brass stamped cameos and handle are. The flowers and tips of some of the leaves are misted with gold shimmer mist. They really have a beautiful sheen in person. I also added paper to the inside of the box.

Vintage Beach Layout by Nancy

Hi everyone, Nancy here sharing a layout I created with one of the vintage family photos that my Mother recently shared with me.  That's Me and Mom on the right.  I love using the beachy teals, greens, and vintage photo colors.  This layout was pretty quick and easy because I built it around one of our botanical journaling blocks.  The shapes are available in a package containing 3 shapes and sizes.  The intricate detailing around the edges is amazing!  I painted mine with gesso, used a script stamp with Perfect Medium, then brushed it with Perfect Pearls Powders.  I used distress inks around the edges, and colored the intricate areas with Prima Chalk Ink.  The chipboard border and element pieces were coated with gesso, then painted with Silks paints.

Desk Organizer by Veronica

Hello Again! Veronica here today to show off Gina's Desk Organizer.

This piece can be decorated many different ways to personalize your needs and to match your decor.  I chose to only decorate the outside of the organizer, using one of my favorite paper collections, the Kaisercraft 75 cent collection.  I  kept the inside the beautiful dark wood color.

I am using my organizer to store some of my paint brushes instead of just pens or things needed at a desk.

"Happiness" An Altered Canvas by Veronica

Hello Again! Veronica here sharing an Altered Canvas. I created this for my Mother who is really hard to please.   She really loved it, making it all worthwhile!

I actually started this one last September, but wasn't sure where to go with it. So I stepped away.....for 8 months!

Gina's Designs and Laser Cuts are truly an inspiration for me to complete a project!

 Here you see her Laser Cut chipboard comes in so many shapes and I just love anything with a Paris theme.

Her Parisian Shape Set  is ideal, and I special ordered the Eiffel Tower from Gina in a larger size to fit my canvas.

This particular one is the Net Style.

And one can never have too many of Gina's intricate Doilies on hand!

Window Shadow Box by Kim and an Altered Canvas by Heidi

We have two amazing projects to share today.  First up is Kim, with an amazing home decor project!

Hi Everyone!  It's Kim here to share my newest creation, a Window Shadow Box done in a vintage shabby style.  It was tons of fun to create, and I love how it turned out.

I covered the inside of the box with a gorgeous black and white photo frame paper from Teresa Collins, and used aqua and turquoise as my accent colors. I painted the frame of the window with some distress paint in white, then sanded it back to the raw wood of the box to really make it look aged and distressed.

Here you can see inside the top of the box, and on the left side I have added one of the Gates from the small fence and gate set, which I embossed in an aged Silver tone. I placed some white, aqua and turquoise flowers in the box behind the gate and added a metal sign sentiment on top. In the middle of the window I placed some resin frames and added my initial.  To the right are some white resin cameras backed by some white doilies. In the far right corner, I placed a small clock button.

 Below, you can see a frame I have altered and added a vintage photo of myself on my 5th Birthday! I have also added the word "Dream" from the Words and Phrases 1 Set. I added some flowers and a camera charm to the top and placed 2 of the intricate doilies on the side and top of the frame. To the right of the frame is a metal camera which I altered using some Patina Guilders Paste, and added a flower to the center. I added a fun metal tap and pipe to the bottom on top of some vintage lace.

 Below, you can see the bottom right of the shadow box.  I have added a steam punk doily and a large wing from the Wings Assortment Set, which I have embossed with shabby blue and aged silver embossing powder.   I added a wooden sentiment and flowers to finish it off.

Next up is Heidi with a gorgeous altered canvas featuring our Queen Anne's Lace chipboard shapes.

 Hello everyone, Heidi here!  Today's project is a canvas I made for Gina's Designs using the gorgeous Lace Flowers.  To start the project I used the honeycomb grid to put some medium randomly on the canvas. 

 I then painted the entire canvas with a light gray paint, going back to add a little mustard to the medium spots (these areas were dry within an hour or two).  I painted the lace flowers with paint and then I used some medium to give it a little depth along with some glitter.
  

Here is a little closer picture of the flowers.  I have them lifted off the page to give the entire canvas some depth.  The glitter is actually very fine and all over the entire canvas.  The effect is so pretty but it was hard for me to get a good photograph.

Double Page Scrapbook Layout

Good morning crafty peeps!  Marfa here to bring you a double page layout.  I think that this is the third or fourth time since I started scrapbooking back in 2001 that I've created a double page layout...lol  This layout is extra special for me because these are family members that I will never see again.  They are my dad's uncle, brother and sister.  His sister is still alive, but lives in another country.   The other two people passes away already.  They are old photos from the 80's.  The corner house on the other page is where my aunt lives now, in Cuba.  The other house is where I lived until I was 10 years old.  That's when my parents and I moved to the United States and I've never gone back.  But somewhere in my memories from long, long ago, I remember that place like in a movie, or a dream.  Looking at these photos helps me remember.

Anyway, enough nostalgia...lol  To make this layout I used paper by Webster's Pages and American Crafts.  I also used lots of chipboard by Gina's Designs.  Also, check out the quilled flowers on the bottom left and the top right.  Those are handmade by me.  I've been waiting to use them on just the right layouts.  The colors and the stripes are inspired by the walls and the rocking chairs behind the people.  I don't make it a habit of using red, white and blue together.  The only place where I like that combination of colors in the American flag.  However, somehow I like it in these papers.  I think it is because I also added yellow and green as accent colors.  I painted the chipboard with acrylic paint and then I embossed with them with clear Ultra Thick Embossing Powder.

Garden Fairy Layout by Nancy

Nancy is with us today to share a loving tribute to her sweet kitty Willie who recently passed away:

Hi everyone, it's Nancy here today.  I'm still missing my kitty Willie so much, and I like to imagine that perhaps he flew to heaven on the wings of a fairy.  This layout was created from my heart.  I hope you like it. I have used two of the small fairies from Gina's Designs, and one of the medium fairies as well as one of the large shuttered windows.

The fairies were painted with clear gesso followed by Twinkling H20's in a gold tone, then dotted with some glossy accents.  I covered the wings with glossy accents then gold glass microbeads.  The steampunk doily is new at Gina's Designs and should be in the shop soon.

I used some Prima resin embellishments to represent the rainbow bridge, and more doilies.  I used a damask stencil on the background paper and also dotted it with glossy accents.

The bricks are also new at Gina's Designs.  The window was dry brushed with gesso and acrylic paint in pastel colors followed by Grecian Gold rub n buff.

This week our design team is going to be sharing Christmas projects!  We know everyone likes to get ahead on these and we figured when better than July to start just that!  

Merry Christmas in July everyone. I want to share q quick card I made using Gina's Designs doilies.  I embossed the bottom piece with a Darice folder and colored the tree with my copics.  I will admit I am not a copic pro but the more I use them the better I get.  I know its obvious I am in love with these doilies.

I used the doily as sort of a backdrop for the centerpiece, which is a globe and has snow in it.  Once again Happy Christmas in July everyone!!

Hey everyone Shanna here to share a little magic and love I have for making tags!

Okay my first tag turned out amazing and I love love love it. 

I used lots of layering on this tag. 

For my second tag... this was an epic fail.... I mean save lol. I was feeling bright and colorful. Well after some Dylusions and stencils... not so bright and very upset with my tag.... so after letting it sit there for a few weeks... I said to myself if you mess up with spray Gesso it and start over... (Thanks Limor and Leanne for echoing that into my head!!!)

So I gave it a quick dry brush of gesso and SHA BAM BAMM!!!!! I said well it still needs a splash of color so I tried out my new Heidi Swapp spray I picked up from an awesome sale Susana was having and threw the sentiment on it and MAGIC!!!

You can still see color poking through but muted a bit. That doily looks awesome right!!!

I painted the chipboard with something and I don't quite remember most likely a Tattered Angels Glaze and gave it a body with pearls and antennas were made with string beads. I love the look on how this turned out!

And now here's Monica with a tag of her own to share!

Gina has doiles that come in 2 sets - 8 inch and a variety size set.  She has intricate cut pieces too.  Now enough of how fabulous these doilies are and a little about my piece.  Oh almost forgot I used "Hope" from here Words & Phrases sets.  I inked a prima flower to match the paper which actually is the packaging from something I bought lol. Stamped a hot air balloon and used some wallpaper tape.
