New Art Journal Cover

Hello everyone!!!! Shanna here with a different take on a recent art journal I made a little while ago. I  thought I loved it and well after looking at it a little more, and a little more, and then I decided I didn't like it.

So I went on a mission to make one a little more cleaner and nicer looking.

So lots of gesso, modeling paste, and a little color this one turned out perfectly as I envisioned it.

I love adding gears when I can to any projects that need an extra touch!

I love the bee and the labels just amazing and fun to layer it all.

I added a little black here and there and loved it.

Hello Friends!  We have two designers on the blog today .  First up is Deann with an amazing project to decorate your home for Fall.

Happy October!

This is the Fall Banner Kit  and the Scarecrow Wall Decor .

I loved combining the two.  

 For the banner I ran the top pieces through an embossing folder. Then inked with Distress Ink. The back pieces were painted orange and paper added behind the letter cut outs. I made paper loops to hang the banner from the rakes.

 I painted the rake rust and brown. For the leaves I ran them through an embossing folder first then I colored with distress inks.

 I used buttons for the eyes and down the front of the shirt.

I inked the face with distress ink linen and inked the edge with Gathered twig. Added scrap paper for the nose and drew on the mouth.

Next up is Lynne to share her first project as the newest member of our Design Team Family!

I'm thrilled to announce that this is my first post on the Design Team for Gina's Designs.  I guest designed here for the month of September and was invited to join the team on a regular basis! I love working with Gina's chipboard products and I'm so looking forward to having the chance to create with more of them and to be part of the DT family !

I altered an empty tea tin that I found in the cupboard after my son went back to school; I couldn't wait to use the new Graphic 45 line "Raining Cats and Dogs" and the adorable chipboard cats from Gina's, and thought this would be a perfect spot to store kitty treats.            

I used black flocking on the cats-which would make them ideal for your Halloween-themed projects!! The flocking creates a great "fur coat" for these adorable pieces.

I couldn't resist adding the crown to this pretty fussy-cut kitty; any cat-owner knows who is REALLY the king or queen of their home-meow! The crown came from the small Honeycomb and Bees set and is a perfect fit!

Mixed Media Art Journal by Kim

Hi Crafty Friends! Today I would like to share with you one of the new items coming very soon to Gina's Store. This is the new Art Journal, and I just love it!  I have always wanted to start an art journal and this was my excuse to give it a try.



 The Art Journal comes with 4 dividers, and some chipboard pages for you to get started. I have covered the divider pages with some random papers from my stash, which will each get some work done on them over time. I plan on using this book quite a lot! 

I really wanted it to represent me and my style, so I chose to do a lot of texture on the front and back covers and used tons of Gina's items on it.

First I layered on various chipboard pieces then I painted them over with gesso. Then used Shimmerz Sprays, Texturez and Paints on them to give them sparkle and nice color tones.

 I got out some of my air dry clay and rolled out a rectangle and then used my stamp that says "create art", and made an impression in the clay for a focal point in the center of the journal. I used some black stayzon ink to make it pop out in the middle while just keeping to softer tones around the outside of it.

Below here you can see a close up of the texture, I have used some crushed up seashells I got in the nail art section on Ebay to add further texture. I just added them with a bit of glossy accents and they stuck down great.

Mixed Media ATC and Shrine & Background Tutorial by Kim

Happy Friday Everyone! Today I have a really fun and quick project to share with you. I have used one of the ATC shrines from Gina's Store, this one is the Swirl ATC Shrine. I have also created an ATC to go inside, and below you will find the tutorial for the background technique I have used to create it.

I really love these shrines, they are so fun to alter, and you can do them in so many different ways, Gina has a great selection of them, which you can find HERE

 I made this Shrine to look like an ATC itself, and on all the sides and back I wanted it to mimic being an ATC. I love working with mixed media so I had a blast making this!

Here is the inside of the ATC Shrine and you can see I have made my ATC as well, and also decorated the inside of the shrine. I love Gina's Doilies and I also used some of the chipboard honeycomb and bees set which I embossed. I also stamped the back of the ATC with a stamp from Stampin' Up.

Here is my tutorial on how I achieved the background effect on the ATC.

First, cut your chipboard to 3 1/2'' x 2 1/2'', and gesso both sides. Get out your clear embossing powder, any brand is fine and your clear embossing ink, I have used Ranger for this tutorial. Choose what stamps you want to use, now you are ready to begin.

Stamp your chosen stamps in the ink and place on the ATC, pressing firmly. Once you have covered your ATC with your stamps and ink, sprinkle your clear embossing powder all over your card.

Your ATC should look something like the bottom left photo, then use your heat gun to melt the embossing powder.

It should now look like the photo on the bottom left. Get out your colored inks, I have used Ranger distress inks for this tutorial.

Using your blending tool or sponge and blend different areas of your ATC with different colors of the inks until you are happy with the end result. I used 4 different colors on mine.

Your ATC should resemble this photo below. Its like magic!

 The clear embossing powder will stay white and your ink colours will blend nicely in the background, its a very cool effect!

 Here is a photo of the unfinished ATC with the background done, and one I did for the ATC Shrine. I love how they turned out. This is a great effect and it looks much harder than it actually is. It is really fun to do, so I hope you will give it a try!

You can add some stencils and mixed media texture paste to the background now and layer on some chipboard and other embellishments to finish off your ATC.

How To Make Clay ATC's With Chipboard Impressions Tutorial

Clay ATC Tutorial Using Gina's Designs Chipboard

Hello Everyone, Kim here! I thought it would be great to start off the week with a bit of a tutorial. I got out some of my oven bake clay and some of Gina's chipboard pieces and started to play around with the idea of making impressions in the clay with the chipboard. I have made these into clay ATC's, but this would work with anything or any type of shape you wish to create, the chipboard makes great impressions in the clay!

I began by rolling out my clay to about 1/8'' thick and then the size of an ATC, which is 2 1/2'' x 3 1/2'', pictured below.

Next I chose some chipboard and laid them out in a random pattern and pressed firmly into the clay.

As you can see I have used various pieces of chipboard to make some impressions, gears, chain, bees and honey comb, and even some dragonflies! Everything seemed to work great to make the impressions!

The next step is bake the clay, which you must read the box on your clay and follow the manufacturer's directions. Mine was baked at 270 degrees for 15 min.

Once the clay was baked, then cooled, it was time to paint and decorate it. I used gesso on my 3 clay ATC's, which you can see below. 

Next it was time to get out some fun items to decorate your ATC. I have used several colors of Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays, Embossing Powders and Mica Powders. But, you can use what ever you have on hand. Think outside of the box, and decorate your clay with what ever you like, now that it is baked, anything really goes!

After you have your background done, its time to play with the chipboard, here below you will see how I decorated some of the dragonflies from Gina's store.

Once you have altered your chipboard pieces, then you can add other embellishments to finish off your ATC's. I have added more clay pieces that I created from some molds I have in my stash along with some metal pieces and flowers.

.....And finally, here is the finished product! 

 I am very happy with how they came out! I hope you will try this, it was a lot of fun to do, and just let your imagination, and your chipboard, run wild!
