Elegant Masks by Lynne & Altered Tin by Shanna

Today we have two fabulous designers up to share their fun and exciting projects. First up is Lynne to share her altered masks.

 

 Hi! Lynne here with  my latest project; I've been having fun decorating my new scrap room and decided to make these to hang on one of the doors using the Masks Shape Set.

I used pieces from the Mini Flourishes-Bella Set and the Feather Shape Set and used papers and embellishments from the November Scraps of Elegance kit  to finish them.

 

                     I painted the pieces with acrylic paint then brushed them lightly with white glitter paint.

     

                The fussy-cut dangles were finished with Glossy accents to add strength and a metallic look. I had so much fun with these that I just might finish the other masks in the set for my door too-there's no end to the creative ways you could decorate these great pieces!

Next up we have Shanna with a vintage style project...

Hi everyone. Shanna here today to share a fun altered tin. 

I don't know about you but I love to repurpose things. Especially things that are sturdy like cookie tins, the shortbread cookie tins too. 

So first I covered the tin with paper. Then I used a doily that I painted with some Distress Paint. I also  painted the chipboard pieces from the Vintage Seamstress Shape Set. 

The sewing machine got an awesome coat of crackle paint to really make it vintage.

I finished off the tin with some flowers from our Craftsupplies1 cross promotion.

Bird and Butterfly Cards by Melissa and a Layout by Guest Designer Rashida

We have two designers up on the blog today.  First up is Melissa with two beautiful botanical styled cards to share.  Also on the blog today, we are happy to welcome back Rashida as a guest designer!

Hi everyone!  Melissa here with two cards using Gina's Lasercut Chipboard.  

I love these very elegant flourishes.  I used them as tree branches in my design.

I began by painting the flourishes with a coat of gesso.  I then mixed green and brown watercolors, and dabbed on a little green chalk ink to paint them.  I used a small paintbrush and water to  take off  a little paint from the centers.  I put a bit of white paint on and them and  blended it with the edges of the green.

On the chipboard birds, I also began with a coat of gesso.   I used birds from the Graphic 45 Botanical Tea papers as my color inspiration for the chipboard birds. I penciled in some lines to separate top from bottom, then I put a little of pink and  brown on the the top. On the bottom  I used a little blue, and a little green.

On the heart I used gesso followed by pearl Viva Decor paste.

Next up is Rashida with a layout featuring our Masquerade Masks in two different styles.

Hi Rashida here today! It's carnival time again in Washington, DC., and as a reminder of my Trinidadian heritage I made this wall hanging layout that I call "The Mask".

All of the Caribbean islanders in the area come together and unite as one. Participants and visitors can enjoy dancing, celebrations, good food and fun. One thing that always captivates me is the bright display of  colors  that are seen so frequently in the islands.

For this wall hanging I decided to use black for my mask base, because black represents unity and strength. Once I colored my mask with a black Sharpie paint marker, I highlighted the black mask with lime green and        silver stickles to give it a little pop and sparkle.

 Finally, for the background, I added memento ink in lime green and gray to white textured cardstock. Once everything was dry I layered the mask on the page with pop dots and added a few flowers from my stash. For a finishing touch I added Dazzles silver strips and a few Jolees.

Steampunk Fun with Jennifer & Cards by Heidi

 

Hello Crafty Friends! Today we are excited to share some more amazing items created by our Guest Designer Jennifer. She has gone Steampunk Mad this time, and we are thrilled to show you her creations. First up is a gorgeous steampunk butterfly necklace!

Now over to Heidi who has some lovely little cards to share with us!

Project number one is a card.  My son is a pilot so as soon as I saw this cute litte (masculine) airplane I knew I had to make a card to mail out to him.  So back up a few weeks and he explained what he envisioned a cool card to look like.   So this is my take on our discussion for him.  I painted the little airplane clip white and the rest is clear embossing.

  I thought I needed to start working on graduation cards since this will be a big year for graduates with our friends and family.   So this is the first one I made- kept it simple but fun I think.  The frame is just cut out of red cardstock.  The cap is chipboard that I painted black and then covered with glaze to give it a little sheen: little red stickles on the tassle.

An Altered Glass Bottle by Marfa and a Layout by Mary M

We have two projects on the blog today, and first up we have Marfa to share an upcycled item.

Hi everybody, I'm Crafting Marfa, and I want to show you my latest altered project for Gina's Designs.  I love to re-purpose things because I'm one of those people who believes in conservation.  If I can save something from going to the trash, I will.  This glass bottle came full of scented oil.  Once the oil was used up I knew that I wanted to keep the bottle but I just didn't have the right project for it.  This month, with all the love and Valentine's projects around, I was suddenly inspired.  This is a Design Team project created for Gina's Designs and it now decorates my bathroom.  It was very easy to put together.  I used a gold paint pen to add some nice gold accents to the bottle and to the typewriter letters.  I also covered the wooden key with the gold pen and hung it inside the bottle.  I glued everything with hot glue.  This is a decorative bottle, so hot glue works fine.  If you plan to handle this bottle often, then I suggest that you find a sturdier type of glue.   So look around your house and find some bottles that you might otherwise throw away and give them a second life.

Next up today is Mary with a layout.  Mary has used lots of technique on this one.

Hi everyone it's Mary with a layout I created using the February Sketch Challenge as well as my beautiful niece for inspiration.

The mask was embossed with black embossing powder and then while it was still hot, I sprinkled glitter over the top of it.  All the flourishes are painted with a custom paint color I made and sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays.

Yes, this butterfly is one of Gina's chipboard pieces! Before the gesso was dry, I gently bent the wings up, sprinkled it with several colors of fine glitter, and then glued it on top of a metal butterfly.

I used a script stamp on the flourish to the left.

Mardi Gras Mask by Shanna

Hi everyone, Shanna here and the Mardi Gras celebrations have started.  I am so excited today to share a mask that I made for Gina's Designs. There is a ton of mask inspiration over on the blog that showcases the design teams creations so stop by the blog and check out all the new fun creations we have all been making! 

I will say I was thrilled when I was told we all had to create with one of these masks this month as Mardi Gras is coming up really fast.

I will say I am not really into the bright golds, purples, and greens. Although you will see a bright Mardi Gras mask coming up soon on my blog as I had to branch out. 

I really love silver not gold (I think is is due to my gold allergy to jewelry). But I love how elegant and classy this mask turned out. I tried hard to find a matching big bling to go in the middle and really set the mask off so I may make some more adjustments when I find that right piece.

Today we have two projects to share.  First up is Kathi with an inventive way to use the chipboard masks that you have seen decorated this month by all of the Design Team members in celebration of Mardi Gras.

Hi everyone, Kathi here, thanks for joining me today,  I have created  a 12 X 12 layout using one of the new masquerade masks  from Gina's store..  The masks come in several shapes and are ready to decorate.

I added two of the smaller masks as photo mats. I added the paper to the mask and the ran it through the big shot with an embossing folder.  I sanded the raised area's and used Lindy's Stamp Gang spray on the lace. I added feathers beads & flowers to the left top of the mask, and I shaped the mask raising the nose area. I added a very thin paper flower laser cuts (from Korea) A gift from my mother-in-law 30 years ago.

Steampunk Kitty by Mary

Thanks for stopping by Gina's blog today! As you may already know, this month the team members are creating masks in celebration of Mardi Gras.   Gina designed four great masks for us to choose from.  Mine morphed into a steampunk kitty! I know! I don't do steampunk! This was my first attempt at it.

The mask I decided to use is the one in the top right corner.

As always, I began with a coat of gesso. Next, I cut different size squares of  3M foil tape, and placed  the squares over the surface of the mask. Using a stylus, I made an impression in the foil to creat a rivet look. I then took one of the steampunk hearts, bent it a bit, covered with the foil tape and attached it to the mask.

The gear boarder and corners were gessoed, sprayed with Lindy's, then embossed with silver and black soot. I used an emery board over the top of some of the gears to give it more of a distressed look, then sprayed them again with Lindy's. The swirl pattern is simply colored with a bic marker in black.

After attaching all the gears and boarders to the mask, I finished it off with metal gears, a clock face, feathers and flat back pearls.

A Mardi Gras Mask and a Home Decor Project

We have two gorgeous projects to share today.  Up first is Shanna with an amazing fairy shrine.

Hey everyone. Shanna here sharing a home decor project using the House Shrine Box. Let me say so much fun. I will admit filling it was a little hard as my selection of fairy garden goodies at craft stores is a little slim. I couldn't find mushrooms and thought to make some but life has a way of off-setting your personal agenda. 

I did happen to have a stash of teeny tiny flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts and a fairy house wouldn't be complete without fairies!

I went with the Prima line Fairybelle. I cut some fairies and then used the papers to cover the box.

Inside you can see my stash of flowers and glitter and I added some gears in there too just to have more on the ground. 

On the top of the house I used a Martha Stewart border punch to add some fancy to the roof and then went to town with some moss. I figured fairies are outside creatures so why not add a dragonfly. I used a little one as I wanted everything to stay proportional. 

I toiled over a title to put into the mini bookplate and I remembered that in my last fairy piece I went with "believe". Well,  thanks to Tim Holtz I had a "believe" left, and yippey it fit in there too! 

Here you can see the banner I cut out and some butterflies I also cut from the Prima paper. You can also get a good look at the Rock Candy Crackle Paint I added to the front panel.

Welcome Friends! I am so pleased to share another lovely project created from the Gina's Designs Mask Shapes Set. I just loved decorating one of her Mask Designs. It truly reminded me of an old Masquerade Ball as I was decorating it. I was humming different waltz  tunes in my head the whole time.

 

 A very simple project...all that's needed is lace and feathers, some pretty flower embellishments and Self-Adhesive Pearls from Prima.

 I covered the mask first with some Prima's Lyric Collection paper, a very lovely black lace design.

 I added some lace from my collection.....never can have too much lace!

I got a the stick from and old American Flag used for the Fourth of July, and inked it black to create that Victorian era feel for a Masquerade Mask.   Shall we Dance?

Vintage Style Mardi Gras Mask By Kim

Happy February everyone! It's Kim here today sharing my vintage style mask just in time for Mardi Gras!  As many of you know it is that time of year again and Gina challenged the Design Team to create something for Mardi Gras, featuring her newly designs Masks from the Mask Shape Set, which you can find in the store.  I chose to go a more Vintage look, with a nod to Parisian style, which would honor the French connection to Mardi Gras. I attached a small dowel and wrapped it in some white wired ribbon to give the mask a handle in which the user can hold it up to their face.

I have first painted the mask in white acrylic paint, then used some clear embossing powder, with a flourish stamp, then embossed it with some chunky white embossing powder. After that I layered on some vintage wedding appliques, which are loaded with bling and pearls. I added some pearls around the top of the eyes as well to complete that look.

Above here you can see I have also added some of Gina's Feathery Flourishes, embossing them with white and gold embossing powder. I then layered more lace on the side and a floral applique in a darker tan colour, then added a few cream roses to top it off.

At the top of the mask I have used some rosette trim and added more Venise Lace and another flower, you can also see a close up here of the Flourish. The photo Below shows a little gold cherub peeking out behind the roses and some pearl sprays and feathers finish it off nicely.
