Vintage Christmas Card and Tags

Hello! It's Gloria Stengel back again with another project. I made a card and two tags for you this week. (If you missed my Christmas composition box from last week, click HERE to see it.)

My favorite type of Christmas decor is vintage with traditional colors and a bit of rust and whitewash tossed in for good measure! I like to use chipboard elements on cards and tags because it adds a lot of detail and interest without a lot of bulk or weight.

The card is 6" x 5" and made with dark brown cardstock. I used just a bit of designer paper because I wanted the chipboard elements and the sentiment to be the stars of the show. {Stars...get it?!} I covered the oval element from the Stars and Flourishes Borders and Corners Set with gold pigment ink and then embossed with Aged Bronze Embossing Enamel. I made sure to allow the enamel to look pitted and aged, with a few bits of the original chipboard showing through. 

I decorated the star oval with snowflakes from the Winter Shape Set and the  Snowflake Shape Set. I sprayed the snowflakes with white shimmer mist, and then embossed them with sparkly white embossing powder. The buttons are tied with kraft twine and then glued to each snowflake.

I covered one of the keyholes from the Keys and Plates Shape Set with gold pigment ink. I added tiny gold brads to the keyhole. Each flower was dipped in gold ink before I glued them to the card.

I decorated the inside of the card with some leftover bits of paper and a stamped greeting.

I always need extra tags around the holidays, so I made two tags to match the card. 

I added a bit of paper to the front of the tag before adding the chipboard elements. I sprayed the star flourishes from the Stars and Flourishes Borders and Corners Set with white mist and then dabbed them with watermark ink. I then embossed the flourishes with embossing enamel. I mixed white embossing enamel with gold embossing powder to make a custom enamel! I love how "clumpy" and thick the enamel is, but the areas with the gold embossing powder are thinner, sort of like rust. It makes the chipboard look amazingly vintage!

I sprayed the word from the Words and Phrases 1 set with Fire Baseboard Mistable Paint and Pearl Glimmer Mist. I added some "gilded" flowers and some bits of paper the I curled around a stylus. I also tucked a few faux postage stamps into the flowers.

I decorated the small tag with one corner from the Art Deco Corners Set, which I sponged with gold pigment ink. I sponged the miniature bookplate from the Miniature Bookplates Shape set with silver pigment ink. I added tiny silver brads to the bookplate. I used a Shabby Blue Embossing Enamel for the stars.

Christmas Composition Box by Gloria

Good morning! It's Gloria with you today! I am sharing my FIRST EVER configuration/composition box! I have created trays and shadow boxes before, but this is my first compo box!

I used the Composition Box - 25, which is 9 1/4" x 6 3/4". The kit comes with three smaller boxes which fit inside the main box, plus a key and the number "25." I created a Christmas scene with lots of bits and bobs from my stash!

As you can see, the box pieces are all notched for easy assembly! I started out by wiping each piece with a baby wipe to remove any dust. I then painted the edges with white acrylic paint.

I painted the "25" and the key with Ranger Gold ink to give the pieces an aged appearance. I painted the metal feet with white paint and then dabbed them with the gold ink. (Please forgive my messy craft mat! I was in a hurry and forgot to use a white background!)

I labeled each box piece with the size of paper I needed, just to save time with measuring. I sponged all the paper edges with Frayed Burlap Distress  Ink.

All the paper is attached to the box with a multi medium. I simply "painted" the paper with the medium and attached it to the box pieces BEFORE assembly. 

I used Ranger Glossy Accents to assemble the boxes, and to attach the small boxes, the metal feet, and the tree to the large box. The boxes are very sturdy and fit together beautifully. Those of you who know me, understand that I do not care for 3-D projects because they are often a pain to put together. I am here to tell you, that THIS project went together so quickly and easily! I was stunned! 

I made sure to cover the back of the box as well. I had thought to use washi tape to cover the edges, but decided I liked the white box showing through, almost as if it was an old crate! 

I covered the sides of the box with contrasting paper. Each small box is covered with coordinating paper as well. 

Once I had the boxes assembled, it was time to decorate! I used some snowflakes from the Snowflake Shape Set to add accents to the top corners of the large box. I sprayed the large snowflakes with gold mist and the smaller snowflakes with silver. I added a gem for extra sparkle!

I went through my holiday hoard, looking for fun embellishments to use for my project. This was a great way to use leftover bits of this and that! Each item is glued to the box with either Glossy Accents or hot glue. I filled some glass bottles with glitter and tiny bells to give some Christmas glitz to the box!

I sprayed the tree with mist and then added some splatters of white paint prior to adding the gems. I sprayed "Joy" from the Words and Phrases I Set with mist and glued it to the tree. 

 I created lots of little vignettes to give the boxes interest and texture. I tried to make everything gold, silver, or white, along with the traditional Christmas colors of red and green.

 Hello everyone,thanks for joining me again here at Gina's!

Today I would like to share something very special to me. September 19 was my Mom's birthday. She would have been 84. 

In honor of my Mom, I created this wall hanging using some of my favorite photos of her along with some of my favorite pieces from Gina's Designs.

 Read along as I share some photos and a few steps of my process.

This first photo is to show you a bit of how I work.

I had the general vision of what I wanted, but not sure of what elements I would use. The assorted Gina's pieces auditioned on and off and up and down, for about an hour before I finally (and I use that word lightly) decided!

For the base, I used covers from a book. They were gessoed, then painted, crackled and glued together.

 

 Next up painting the Flourished Frames Set-Evie (I used all three) and giving these a layer of crackle as well.

Gina's Peacock Feathers Shape Set are absolutely gorgeous! These fit perfectly into Mom's piece as she had a beautiful evening dress that my Dad had brought her back from Japan. The dress, iridescent Damask Silk, had Peacock feathers all over and was one of the colors I used for this.

After the Peacock Feathers were painted and placed along with the other chipboard, I felt I needed just a bit more. I went through my Gina's stash and found the perfect chipboard pieces!

Again a bit of separation was done -

I told you Gina's chipboard was versatile!

 Here I used the Wrought Iron Set and separated a few of the swirly embellishments for my accent pieces for the center.

   I was painting the words "A Moment in Time", when I noticed there was Mom in beautiful cursive, so I cut it from the phrase and  adhered it to one of the pieces from the Stackable Labels Set.

"Timeless Memories" Folio by Kim C.

This week I have made a mini album or folio for a benefit for someone that lost their home to a very major fire.  I used the tutorial from My Sisters Scrapper on youtube.  This was very quick to make.  I love the way it came out.

The front cover I used words from Words & Phrases #1 which I painted with snowtex to give them some dimension.  I cut a clock from Skeleton Clocks Set; half was used on the cover and the other half on the inside.  I used snowtex on them and then I used distress ink on it also.  I added flowers and twine from my stash.  I also added dew drops from The Robin's Nest.

I then used a key and keyhole from the Keys & Plates set.  I used snowtex on them, then I used distress inks to give them an aged look.  I used on the edge of the folio hinges from the Hinges Set.  Again I used snowtex and distress inks to give them an aged look.

The inside of the folio will hold 15 photos in the waterfall section.  On the opposite side is a pocket with tags with the other half of the skeleton clock. Flowers and twine from my stash. were also added.

"Not Your Everyday" Composition Book with Guest Designer Pam Bray

 Good morning!!!! Don't you love back to school sales? I sure do!!!! I always stock up on school supplies...the prices are always to good to pass up.

  Like these 50 cent composition books....oh my!!!! 

BUT....

how boring are the covers of composition books.

 SO.......

lets make a fabulous mixed media composition book to write notes, favorite verses or other timeless memories in. Begin by first applying DecoArt White Gesso over the top, give a light first coat, allow it to dry and re-apply. Allow to dry completely.

 Once dry....tape of book binding with washi tape.  Place Gina's Lasercut Designs Chipboard and flowers down using a Scotch Quick Dry Glue, allow it to dry. 

Randomly place washi tape on book cover.

Spray with the DecoArt Media Red and Yellow Shimmer Misters, allow them to dry.

 Make a mix of two parts DecoArt Media Quincridone Gold, one part of Media Paynes Grey and some Ultra Matte Varnish together and apply to front of composition book and over all of the wonderful Chipboard pieces from Gina's. Allow to dry between coats.

(I applied several coats to achieve the depth I wanted, going darker here and there with the mixture)

Using DecoArt Media Antiquing Cream and a round brush apply to the top of Gina's Chipboard words, numbers and flowers. Mix Antiquing Cream Patina Green with varnish, apply lightly over entire book.

Apply Mixed Media Sand Paste randomly to the top of composition book with circle stencil and palette knife, allow to dry. Spatter book with Everlasting and Black Chalkboard Paint using and old tooth brush. Allow it to dry.

Add random metals to top of the "Not Your Everyday" Composition Book to give it a bit more texture.

WOW....you have just transformed a boring composition book into and EXCITING MIXED MEDIA BOOK!!!!

 I hope you have enjoyed my altered composition book project and try making one for yourself.

 They would also be fun to do a few up as gifts.

"A Moment in Time" Layout with Robins Nest Paper by Kim C.

 Hello! Kim here with a layout using papers from The Robin's Nest. The picture I used in my layout is my grandmother. She was a sweet and very wonderful lady and I miss her very much. 

The paper I used from the Robin's Nest for the back ground is Honeycomb Fleur Cardstock.  I then used Tropicana Fleur Cardstock for the photo mat along with cream colored cardstock.  I used from Gina's Designs the chipboard frame called Flourished Frame Connie.  Gesso was used to soften it up just a little bit.  You can still see the natural color of the chipboard.

Along the right side of the photo I made a flower cluster that has a piece of chipboard called Tudor Rose Singes.  I cut it in half and used some of the negative pieces to add some swirls.  I also used gesso on these pieces as well.  Some diamond dew drops in a frosted white from The Robins Nest was then added.

At the bottom left of the photo I added more of the negative pieces coming out of the flowers.  I also added a script word cluster from Words & Phrases 1. 

I hope you like this weeks project.  It was a very emotional project for me.
