Joy Word Tree with Marjolaine

Merry Christmas  friends!

I hope you are having an awesome day! Marjolaine here with a short post to show you what I have done with the word tree.

I used silver Zing embossing powder to cover the tree, stringed some blue beads, added some bling, flowers, a few snowflakes and ribbon and my tree was ready to be displayed with the rest of the decorations.

Christmas Tag with Marjolaine

Hello everyone, Marjolaine here with a tutorial for a Christmas tag. I made a video so you can watch how I made it and you can follow along with the written instructions.

Tags are super fun and easy to make and I especially like to make them

this time of year. They're the perfect size to practice new
techniques on and a great little gift to give away to friends. In a
short time you can make many and have them of hand to add to last
minute gifts.

Supplies

Chipboard embellishments

Diecut sheet

Distress ink

Blending tool

Big brush markers

Glitter glue

Gel medium

Fast dry liquid adhesive

Gesso

Wrapping paper

Manila tag

Letters

Sand paper

In this tutorial I'll show you how to create a simple collage that will
serve as a backgound for Christmas tags. With a few supplies from
your stash you'll be set to create beautiful tags that can be shared
or swapped.

Step One: Adhere some pieces of ripped wrapping paper to your tag with
gel medium. Spread a layer of gel medium to the surface of the papers
as well. Add a layer of diecut pieces on top and another layer of gel
medium. Dry your tag with a heat tool.

Step Two: Trim excess paper from around your tag with scissors.

Step Three: Cover your tag with a thin layer of gesso. Remove excess
gesso with a wet wipe. Dry your tag completely.

Step Four: Outline the diecuts with big brush markers and smudge the
ink with your finger. Add some color to your tag surface as well.

Step Five: Apply distress ink around the tag with a blending tool.

Step Six: Coat all the chipboard pieces with gesso and dry with a heat
tool.

Step Seven: Color the chipboard pieces with big brush markers. Dry the
ink with a heat tool.

Step Eight: Lightly
outline the chipboard pieces with a black big brush marker.

Step Nine: Rub
the edges of the chipboard pieces with sand paper.

Step Ten: Adhere the chipboard pieces to the tag with glue.

Step Eleven: Adhere
some words to the tag with gel medium.

Step Twelve: Add a layer of glitter glue to the chipboard piece and
allow it to dry completely.

Step Thirteen: Dab some gesso to the
chipboard in random places to give it a snowy effect.

Step Fourteen: Tie a ribbon at the
top of the tag.

This technique is perfect for using up old Christmas diecuts and small
pieces of left-over wrapping paper that can't be used to wrap. Why
not try a variety of different prints for a unique holiday look.

Paris Shadow Box with Marjolaine

Hello friends, Marjolaine here. This week I've been playing with the Paris shadow box and I'm loving how it turned out.

The box is super easy to assemble, I used Zip dry to adhere the pieces together. I used some beautiful napkins and decoupaged them onto the box. I also smeared a bit of gesso on the surface to age the box. Some of the chipboard pieces are covered with Zing embossing powder and distressed with gesso, others are colored with a grey big brush marker.

This little bouquet of flowers is one of my favorite things about this box, I just love the little "vase" they're in. (the jar is sold separately)

Flying Heart Wall Hanging with Marjolaine

Hello, Marjolaine  here today with the really cool wall hanging from Gina's Designs. I'm pretty sure this is my all time favorite Gina project!

The kit comes with plenty of pieces to make it beautiful but I wanted to pile on the chippies so I added some steampunk pieces as well as these amazing doilies. Aren't those fabulous?! The intricate details of Gina's pieces are what continues to amaze me. I used a variety of mediums of this project. Everything from gesso to Gelatos, to crackle paint and Big Brush Markers.

Hello everyone, Marjolaine here with another tutorial using Gina's Designs chipboard.

Embossing is one of the easiest and most versatile ways to enhance metal and
using an embossing folder makes it even more effortless. In this
tutorial, I'll show you how to emboss a chipboard piece that is
covered in metal foil tape. The added dimension of embossing combined
with the luster of the foil creates a fabulous finish that will add
vivacity to any artwork.

Step One:Place a piece of chipboard on the sticky side of the metal foil tape.

Step Two: Cut around your chipboard shape with a pair of scissors. You'll need to
leave enough tape to be folded over the edge.

Step Three: Rub he surface of your chipboard to make sure it's adhered and fold the
edges of tape over the chipboard.

Step Four: Place your chipboard piece in an embossing folder and run it through an
embossing machine.

Step Five: Coat your piece with acrylic paint and a paint brush. Set it aside to dry
completely or dry it with a heat tool.

Step Six: Sand some of the paint off with a sanding chip. 

Step Seven: Coat your piece with a different color of paint and allow it to dry
completely.

Step Eight: Sand some of the paint off with a sanding chip.

Step Nine: Squeeze a few drops of alcohol ink and blending solution on the felt of your
blending tool and rub it on a few areas of your chipboard piece. 

Your chipboard pieces are now ready to use on your project.With
a few different embossing folders you can create a quilt like effect
on your projects and really change things up. The metal foil tape can
also be applied in strips to a larger piece and a rectangular sheet
would make a wonderful book cover or canvas background. 
For my other chipboard pieces I painted them black and added a clear
 layer of distress crackle paint.

Faux Embossed Canvas with Marjolaine

Hello friends, Marjolaine here with a faux embossing technique with tissue paper!

There's something about crinkled tissue paper that I just love when it comes
to adding it to my mixed media art. Perhaps it's the aged metallic
kind of look or maybe it's the deep texture that it gives my
projects. Tissue paper is an inexpensive and easy to find supply that I often include in my artwork. Coupled with Gina's chipboard it makes beautiful canvases!

Here are the steps to making your own canvas:

             Step One: Choose the chipboard and/or foam pieces that you would like to use.

Step Two:  Color all your pieces with  black marker or paint and allow to
dry completely.

Step Three: Adhere all your pieces to the canvas with liquid adhesive.

Step Four: Coat the whole canvas with decoupage medium using a foam brush.

Step Five: Crinkle a sheet of tissue paper, open it up and glue it down to
your canvas. Use your finger to smooth it down around all your
pieces.

Step Six: Repeat step four and five and add another layer of decoupage medium all over the surface of the canvas. Allow everything to dry before moving on.

Step Seven: Use your finger to rub white paint on all the shapes and
letters. Allow the paint to dry or use a heat tool to speed up the
process.

Step Eight: Rub gold paint on your letters using your finger. You can also
highlight other areas as well as the edges of your canvas.

Your canvas is now done. Why not try a variety of colors? You can use more
than one color of tissue paper on the same canvas and choose a
contrasting paint to go with it. Another way to change it up is to
overlap your chipboard pieces which will add more depth and texture. Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will try it out for yourself!

Bird Cage with Marjolaine

Hello friends, Marjolaine here.

Today I'm scheduled for an off the page project and I thought this birdcage would be perfect. It was super easy to assemble and I'm thinking I would like to make many more for Christmas table center pieces. 

I kept if fairly simple. The cage is painted with two layers of gesso and I used a script stamp on top to add texture. For my roses I used a six petal flower punch and followed this tutorial.

Pennant Banner With Marjolaine

Hello friends, Marjolaine here with a quick banner project!

I've been looking forward to making this banner ever since I received it a few months ago. I was so happy to sign up for today's post so I could make it. The banner comes with your choice of word, the paper strips to make  he rosette flowers and the corrugated cardboard pennants.

I started off with a thin layer of gesso over all the pieces.

Then I used two different Gelatos to color the pennants.

Added some black to the edges...

...stamped my letters with script and rubbed a little Gelato on them. 

Lastly I made the little rosette flowers, (so easy thanks to Gina!) assembled everything together and added some embellishments!

Off the Page with Marjolaine

Hello  friends, Marjolaine here with an off the page project using the 10 Words collection and a few other pieces!

For the chipboard, I covered each piece with gesso and then stamped them with script. I also rubbed a little acrylic paint to make them stand out. My frame is painted in acrylic, stamped and distressed a bit with gesso. To finish the piece I found the perfect Prima flowers. Stunning!

I will be hanging this piece of art in my bathroom. It's so cheery and bright it just makes me smile!

Garden Fairy ATC's by Marjolaine

Hello  friends, Marjolaine here! I'm posting today to show you these amazing little garden fairies from Gina's Designs. They come in three sizes and are so much fun to work with!

For my background I used Prima papers that had fairies on them so I thought they were perfect. I added some idea-o-logy decorative tape and some paint and I was done! I used Gelato on my fairies along with a background stamp and a touch of Stickles on their wings.

I'm dreaming up a canvas to use my larger fairies on!
