A Layout by Shanna and an Altered Canvas by Veronica

First up is Shanna with a gorgeous mixed media layout which she also created for our February sketch challenge.

Happy Monday everyone. Shanna here with a creative, bright and fun layout for you using the new February Sketch Challenge which can be found here!

I loved creating this with bright colors as the photo was so bright!

I gave the Texture Sheet and the Feather a good coat of gesso. Then on the Diamond Sheet I went to town with some Dylusion Sprays.

I used some Prima Chalk Ink on the Birds.

And finished it out with this fun title.

Next up is Veronica with more mixed media technique on this lovely canvas entitled  "She Understood The Need For Change".

What a lovely morning! I can hardly believe that this month is nearly over! Time flies so quickly especially when it's spent working on fun creative projects!
Today I'm sharing an altered canvas that I created for a friend.  She cried when I gave it to her.. not my intent...but I think she liked it just the same.
Gina's Designs carries a wide assortment of Dress Form Shapes and I use them every chance I get! I love, love, love them and will most likely have them in a lot of the projects that I do. They just remind me of a simpler, elegant time. The Victorian Age....it's my passion!
I am also a big fan of Julie Nutting's Prima Doll tags, as they go so well with Gina's dress forms.
I have just this past year gotten into the mixed media craze!  I have always just simply stayed with my paper projects, working on layouts or cards. I was always afraid, or just not confident enough, to let this side of me show too! Because....all it truly is...is expressing the inner you.  I began by applying soft colors of acrylic paint, my favorite sprays....then just kept layering! I have bubble wrap impressions on the background...and one of my favorite touches is an torn piece of pattern paper from my stash that I got last summer at a garage sale. I think it's the perfect touch with Gina's Dress Forms!

To color the Dress Form,  I simply inked it with Black Ink, and then embossed it with Antiquities Rust by Ranger to give it an old metal look. It's a pretty neat effect!
So that's my view on working with mixed media onto canvas. I hope you enjoyed taking a look as much as I enjoyed making it.
Thanks for stopping by, and Blessings to you and yours!

Mardi Gras Mask

Good morning , Deann here with a mask from Gina's Designs.
I started with the Mask Shape Set, ran it through an embossing plate, and colored
it with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink.  I used my Swiss Dot embossing plate
on the Feathery Flourishes Set and glued 4 of them around the eyes, also coloring them with the Worn Lipstick.   I cut a crown shape free hand out of gold foil paper. I only glued the ends down so it would
bubble up in the center to make room for the bouquet .
I arranged the rest of the Feathery Flourishes set behind the crown.
It wasn't full enough so I added some Queen Anne's Lace that I painted gold.  The tips were
painted white, and when dry I added a clear glitter to the white.
I cut the Fanciful Elements  frame apart and painted the pieces gold.
Once everything was dry it was time to arrange all the pieces .

I had so much fun making this mask ! I hope you give it a try :)

Trinket Box

Good morning lollipops!  I hope that you are having a great weekend.  This is Crafting Marfa today.  I have a super awesome project to share with you.  It is a hardboard trinket box that you can purchase at Gina's Designs.  Decorating this box was very easy and lots of fun.  I'm going to use it to keep my jewelry.  The box is of a pretty good size, yet it fits in a nightstand drawer, which is where I plan to keep mine.  I used one of Gina's fairies, which I find so cute!  I painted the box with two colors of acrylic paint and lots of flowers, which are one of my favorite decorations.  I also used the sketch that we are are using over at Gina's Designs Blog.  We have a new Sketch Challenge happening.  But its not just for layouts or cards.  You can use it to make other things.  As you can see, it worked pretty well for my box.  Scroll down for a short video and a list of supplies.

Victorian Frame with Easel by Kim and Wall Art by Heidi

We have two projects to share today beginning with a gorgeous Victorian Frame and Easel set by Kim.

Hello Friends and Happy Valentines Day! Today I'm sharing my altered Victorian Frame & Easel.  I just love this Frame set, it really harkens back to the time when photography was just starting to come into its own. The photo I chose for the center is a copy of a vintage one taken back in 1887, the name on the back of the photo was "Aunt Emma" so that is what I call this lovely lady.
I embossed all around the frame, and used Gilders Paste to give the effect of aged copper. I added some metal copper corners to add to the metallic look.
The bottom left corner of the frame has some of Gina's Feathery Flourish Pieces, which I embossed and then layered on some two toned burgundy and tan roses to complete the look.

Above is the front of the easel. I have gone over it with gesso, then used Gilders Paste in 2 different colors to give a worn metal look. I layered on some vintage laces, a metal Love embellishment in bronze, velvet ribbon, flowers and  a crochet button. I have also added a gorgeous metal peacock to the side of the Love frame.
You can see more of the Feathery Flourish there, which I embossed with the same colour as the other pieces on the frame.

Above is a close up of some of the Steampunk Angel Wings from the  Dressform and Wing Set on the top right, and an applique and flower from my stash.
Below is a photo of the Easel you receive in the set. You can see how I distressed it to give it a worn look. The frame just sits nicely on top of it.

I hope you like my project today and thanks so much for stopping by!

Next up is Heidi with a beautiful home decor wall art piece, one of several new products that were designed with Valentine's Day in mind, but can used anytime of year.

Hello, it's Heidi again with a little wall art from Gina's Designs.  The actual kit comes with the chipboard square that I covered with Valentine papers, the corrugated board  and then the letters L O V E. I used the swans from the Valentine set as the hanger at the top!

I painted the letters with a deep red paint and then left everything else natural!   Adding a few bits and pieces from the Valentine Sets that Gina has along with the ever so lovely doilies!

Masquerade Mask

Hi there!  It's Nancy here today with my version of our Design Team challenge for February.  These masks are a lot of fun and very easy to decorate.  I applied paper to mine using Mod Podge for durability, then all it took was a few passes through my stash and a hot glue gun.  I hope you've been enjoying all the different styles and versions of our masks this month, keep watching for several more to come!  Thanks for looking!

Layouts by Kathi and Melissa

Today we have two layouts to share.  First up we have  Kathi.  I love how she placed the clock hands perfectly on the photo.

Hello, Kathi here to share my 12 X 12 layout.

I began my layout with the Marion Smith Nirvana paper. The chipboard frame is so pretty that I kept the layout simple.  After the paint on the chipboard was dry, I placed the photo behind it and then added three small flowers to the lower left of the chipboard. I placed some steampunk doilies behind the photo on two sides. To finish off the layout, I added some flourishes  I hope you liked my project today, thanks for stopping by and don't forget to visit Gina's Store for new products.

Next up is Melissa with a gorgeous mixed media layout.

Hi, Melissa here with a page featuring chipboard by Gina's Designs Lasercuts. This is a sheet of watercolor paper I first sprayed with  water, then with Dylusions ink spray . On the chipboard I used gesso, then painted them with different colors of Perfect Pearls. The texture on the right is made with gloss gel using chipboard as stencils.  I painted the dry gel with lumieres, and decoart pens. I was inspired by Nancy Smith's recent page using this months sketch.  I aimed for a cleaner design than usual.

I titled my layout "Surprise" because my husband came home from work, woke me up , and took this shot.  I was a little embarrassed to be caught napping.  My favorite dreams are ones where I fly,and I think my pages look like their underneath water or in the air, so this fits. I really enjoyed working on this page, I love watercolor paper,  the chipboard is so much fun to play with, and this photo brings back a lot of good memories.

This is a little house we rented in the 80's in Northport, Long Island, NY.  Shortly after, we moved to California.
